Terms of Service

Effective April 27, 2026

The short version

RarePeer is a leaderboard for high-school students. By using the site you agree to play fair (no manipulation, harassment, or impersonation), you understand the votes shape your public ranking, and you can stop using the service or delete your account at any time.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. RarePeer is intended for current high-school students (grades 9–12). If you no longer meet this requirement, your account may be deactivated. Don't sign up on someone else's behalf without their consent.

Your account

  • You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
  • The information you put in your profile must be your own. Don't impersonate other people.
  • One person, one account. Don't create duplicate accounts to game invites, ELO, or the Founding Member badge.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, dox, or target other users.
  • Submit false or defamatory information about yourself or others.
  • Vote manipulation: scripting votes, paying for votes, or coordinating off-platform to manipulate rankings.
  • Reverse-engineer the platform, abuse rate limits, or attempt to bypass security controls.
  • Scrape data, mass-export profiles, or use the platform to build competing services.
  • Use the invite system to spam non-consenting recipients.
  • Upload content (in any free-text field) that's illegal, sexually explicit, or violates someone else's rights.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Vote manipulation may result in your votes being silently disregarded (shadow mode) and your account flagged for review.

Voting and rankings

Rankings (ELO scores) are computed from peer votes using a published algorithm. Rankings can change quickly, especially for new accounts during initial calibration. We don't guarantee your rank will reflect any particular assessment of "merit" — it's a fun comparative ranking, not a college admissions metric. Don't make life decisions based on it.

User content

You retain ownership of the content you submit (activities, awards, etc.). By submitting content, you grant RarePeer a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty- free license to display, store, and publish it within the service for the duration of your account.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. We may suspend or terminate access for users who violate these terms, abuse the system, or pose a risk to others. On termination, your profile and votes are permanently removed.

Disclaimer of warranties

RarePeer is provided "as is." We don't warrant the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the data displayed is accurate at any given moment. ELO is entertainment, not science.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, RarePeer and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100) or the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months, whichever is greater.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold RarePeer harmless from any claim or demand arising from content you submit, your violation of these terms, or your violation of another user's rights.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be resolved in courts located in San Francisco County, California.

Changes

We may revise these terms. Material changes will be announced in-app or via email. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

These terms are intended as a starting point and should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before public launch.
